Privacy policy

This policy explains what information the Parlific app and the parlific.com website handle, and why. Parlific is made by TechSnack LLC ("we", "us"). If you have a question, email legal@techsnack.dev.

The short version

• Parlific has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
• The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
• Parlific never records your voice.
• Photos you scan are read on your device. They are not uploaded and not kept.
• Your packs, bookmarks, progress and settings are stored only on your device.
• We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not show ads.

What stays on your device

Everything you create or do in Parlific is saved on your iPhone or iPad and is never sent to us. That includes packs you make or duplicate, words you add, bookmarks, flashcard progress, your chosen voice and appearance, and the state of any pack trials.

Deleting Parlific deletes this data. If your device backs up to iCloud or a computer, Apple may include Parlific's data in that backup under your Apple settings; we have no access to those backups.

Camera and scanned text

If you use Scan, Parlific asks for camera access so you can photograph French or English text. The text is read on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition. Translations between English and French use Apple's on-device translation, which may ask you to download a language from Apple the first time.

We do not upload, store or see your photos. Only the words you choose to add to a pack are saved, on your device. You can turn off camera access at any time in your device's Settings.

Speech and the microphone

Words are spoken by the French voices built into iOS, on your device. Parlific does not use the microphone and does not record, store or send any audio.

Downloading packs

Parlific downloads packs and the pack list from cdn.parlific.com, which is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. As with any request on the internet, Cloudflare receives your IP address and basic technical details (such as the app version and device type) so it can deliver the files and protect the service from abuse. We do not use this information to identify you, and we do not combine it with anything else. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Purchases and trials

Purchases and free trials are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details, your Apple ID or your name. The app checks which packs you own directly with Apple on your device. Apple's handling of your purchase information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Apple gives us sales reports, and if you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may also give us aggregated usage and crash statistics. These reports do not identify you.

The website

parlific.com uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. The page's demo plays French words with your browser's own speech feature, on your device. The company that hosts the website receives your IP address and standard request details in order to serve pages and keep the site secure.

When you email us

If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply to you and keep it only as long as needed to help you, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

Children

Parlific is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information, children can use it without sharing any. If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive a copy. Because the app keeps your data on your device, you can delete it yourself by deleting the app. For anything else, email legal@techsnack.dev and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in delivering packs securely and on your request when we reply to your email. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Where information is processed

We are based in the United States. Our service providers may process the limited information described above in the United States and other countries, with safeguards required by law.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Parlific handles information, for example by adding a feature that sends data off your device, we will update this policy and the date above before the change takes effect. For significant changes we will also let you know in the app.
